A large contingent, consisting of 97 Orcas were able to win the meet, scoring 1,892 points, doubling the next highest team at 949 points. It was an exciting meet, with Orcas swimmers raking in 197 medals while swimming a total of 396 best times. This marked the 14th straight victory for the Lethbridge Orcas at the Region F Regionals. It also marked the 31st straight Region F meet victory for the Orcas, considering both in-season meets and Regionals. The 31-meet streak has now lasted 3 and a half years. The Orcas are closing in on the club-record winning streak 39-meets and will push for that milestone next season. The Orcas have now won 31 straight Region F meets (3.5 years). They’re on their way back to the record of 39. 61 of these Orcas qualified for ASSA Provincials in Edmonton on Aug 18-19. Of the 97 Orcas competing, the following 44 Orcas were perfect in best time hunting: Josh Adams (19), Ben Adserballe (13), Liam Adserballe (10), Morgan Bos (16), Olivia Bos (14), Tyson Chomiak (15), Carson Clamp (6), Alejandro Figueroa (14), Walter Figueroa (11), Brooklyn Filipenko (11), Riley Ginther (6), Taylor Ginther (8), Avani Grover (9), Tarak Grover (6), Rosie Harvey (15), Indyana Isfeld (16), Brooklyn Kimmen (11), David Kindley (16), Kylie Kozub (4), Soleil Letourneau (17), Hannah Lundquist (11), Keith Lundquist (41), Brent Nunweiler (34), Luca Nunweiler (8), Kiera Petrone (12), Isabelle Petry (14), Bren Pilsner (16), Elliott Pilsner-Roberts (9), Kai Polec (11), Claire Puchinger (10), Devlan Sheppard (14), Kennedy Smith (12), Nicole Suarez (16), Maggie Swain (10), Tate Tolman (22), Jayda Tymko (10), John Vanden Elzen (13), Sean Vanderzee (13), Alexa Weighill (10), Kallen Weighill (7), Eric Wen (13), Makinley Wentz (6), and Cole Wirun (14). Sean Vanderzee (left) and Devlan Sheppard (right) were two Orcas who went 100% best times and booked multiple events at ASSA Provincials this weekend. 3 of Devlan’s swims were also top 10 in ASSA history for the boys 13-14 age group. (Picture Credit: Steve Kwan) Competition was high, with all of Region F competing at very peak levels. When the dust settled, the Orcas found themselves with 61 Provincial Qualifiers (9 more swimmers than last year). The full Orcas provincial team can be found on the ASSA website at: http://www.assa.ca/web/stats/prov/selectWildCard.php. Swimmers who deserve honourable mention from this group are those who went 100% in winning their individual events. The 9 swimmers who were able to achieve this feat (3 more than the 6 we had last year) were: Josh Adams (19), Kira Armstrong (17), Tyson Chomiak (15), Taylor Ginther (8), Ottavio Lutterotti (10), Devlan Sheppard (14), Rachel Tkach (24), Petra Tymko (10), and Keeley Watt (20). Ottavio Lutterotti (left) and Kira Armstrong (right) had Michael Phelps-esque performances as they were on the list of Orcas winning 100% of their individual events. (Photo Credit: Shannon Bos) In addition to the strong individual performances this weekend, the Orcas will also be sending a number of relay teams to Provincials. A total of 26 Orcas relays will be competing at Provincials this weekend, just outnumbering the 24 relays we sent to the meet last season. Of these 24 teams, 13 are seeded in the top 3 provincially, with a number of other teams right on the medal bubble. Some attention should be given to the girls 8&U medley and free relay teams, who have a chance of breaking old provincial records in the events from 1990 and 1991. Help the Orcas get behind these teams, as well as all the other teams this weekend! Andie Smith (left) is on both of the girls 8&U teams that will be going for gold medals and provincial records this weekend. Jayda Tymko takes over off of Alexa Weighill (right) in the girls 10&U relay. The 10&U team consisting of Elliott Pilsner-Roberts, Alexa Weighill, Jayda Tymko, and Petra Tymko broke club records in both the medley and free 10&U relays. (Photo Credit: Shannon Bos) The 61 Orcas will travel up to Edmonton on August 18-19 for the ASSA Provincial Championships. The Orcas age-group team will be trying to return to the top 3 Large Teams in the Province (last being on the podium in 2014). With a 4th place finish last season, and being ranked in the top 3 all season, a podium result is in the cards. It is now up to each and every Orca to get up, have some fun, and race one last time this summer.
